The Best Government Training?

We’re all looking for ways to advance our careers and move to the next level. But finding the right training can be hard. Especially training for government.

But that’s where the Next Generation of Government Training Summit comes in. We’re a little biased, but we think it’s one of the best trainings out there to learn important communication, leadership and management skills to advance your career. This year, it’s taking place August 1-2 in Washington, D.C. and will bring together 700+ govies, representing 50+ agencies.

We just released this year’s schedule and wanted to share 10 of our favorite sessions, all of which are tied to OPM Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) and offer continuing professional education (CPE) credits.

  1. Build Your Strengths
We’ll give you a code to take Gallup’s StrengthsFinder assessment and you’ll learn how to utilize your top five strengths in your role.

  2. Make the Most of Your Gov Career
Government has over 1.8 million different jobs in more than 80 agencies and departments. Figuring out where you fit can be a challenge. In this session, you’ll learn how to maneuver in your career to find your niche.

  3. Empower Your Team to Succeed
What if all of the people on your team were at the same level as your top performer? In this session, you’ll learn how to utilize your team’s diverse strengths to make them more successful.

  4. Leading from the Middle
Being in middle management is tough – you have to master leading up and down. This session will help you learn how to overcome challenges and communicate effectively with direct reports and superiors.

  5. Critical Conversations
It’s impossible to avoid difficult conversations at work. In this session, you’ll enhance your conflict management skills through interactive scenarios. You’ll gain confidence and overcome a defensive nature to handle conflict with ease.

  7. Create a Startup Culture in Government
Government has some pretty awesome ‘start-up’ agencies like 18F and CFPB. But you don’t have to work at one of these agencies to bring a startup culture to your own work environment. In this session you’ll learn how to break the status quo and build a startup mentality.

  8. Understanding Project Funding
Money makes the world go around. You have to keep your project funded and off the cutbacks chopping block. In this session, you’ll learn how gov allocates money to help you maximize the chances of getting your project funded.

  9. Preparing for Leadership Positions
Baby boomers are retiring, which means you may be moving into a management position. Learn how to position yourself for a leadership role and prepare for the future.

  10. Design Thinking Immersion
Hone your creativity to solve problems with design thinking techniques. In this session, you’ll learn how to hold your own design thinking workshops by participating in a real-world example.
