DoD Updates Congress on Progress in Afghan Conflict

The Defense Department has released a report detailing the progress of U.S. forces in Afghanistan and where that conflict currently stands, according to a DoD release.

Afghan security forces are now successfully providing security for their own people, fighting their own battles and holding their own against the insurgency,” said George Little, Pentagon Press Secretary.

The report says that there has been a shift in the conflict and Afhgan soldiers now conduct 95 percent of the military operations and 98 percent of special operations.

“The fact that the ANSF – a force in its infancy five years ago – has maintained the gains made by a coalition of 50 nations, with the best trained and equipped forces in the world, is a major accomplishment,” added Little.
