Transport for London (UK) is testing an online version of its Countdown system, which provides real-time bus arrival information. The beta test site was supposed to remain private, but word quickly spread in the open data community after an internal TfL memo was leaked. Once the system is launched, riders will be able to receive real-time bus arrival information via web page or text message. According to TfL, standard text messaging rates will apply and customers will be charged 12p for the text response. Visually impaired passengers will be able to access the information using the text-to-speech feature on their mobile phones. Link to full story in The Guardian.
