Ottawa’s OC Transpo (ON) is warning riders not to rely on unofficial Twitter accounts that provide service information and status updates. Unlike systems in other Canadian cities, OC Transpo does not have an official Twitter account and riders have taken things into their own hands. One Twitter account (@OCTranspoAlerts) reposts service updates from OC Transpo’s website; another (@OC_Transpo) provides general service updates and information but is vague about its unofficial status. “They are someone that’s impersonating OC Transpo,” said Diane Deans, chair of the transit commission. “They’re not to be relied upon.” “You’ll be quite surprised at the end of the day, that 2011 is going to be a different world for OC Transpo,” general manager Alain Mercier told CBC News, saying that OC Transpo expects to have a Twitter presence by next year.
