Transforming Workflows for — and With — AI

The central question about artificial intelligence in government has shifted from “Will agencies adopt it?” to “How will they implement it?” Agencies are using AI to speed up data-intensive tasks in IT, finance and human resources; to detect signs of fraud and abuse; and to analyze unstructured data, such as contracts, grants documents and policy manuals.

As they graduate from pilot projects, however, agencies need to do more than bolt AI to existing processes. Instead, they must integrate from start to finish to take full advantage of its capabilities. This approach can unlock new efficiencies, automate repetitive tasks, and ultimately produce data-driven insights for faster decision-making.

“Deeply transformative adoption of AI will come when agencies move beyond simply using something like a chatbot for writing a contract clause to embedding the technology directly into the core workflows and the mission-critical systems,” said Lee Fisher, Vice President for Public Sector at Docusign. “[When] you can extract key data points … that were previously trapped in static PDFs to then make critical operational decisions, that’s how you transform work.”

In this video interview, Fisher explains how AI can streamline agreement processes and turn static data into an engine of efficiency. Topics include:

  • Restructuring workflows to turn documents into data
  • How an AI-powered platform cut document-retrieval time by 99% for a Colorado county
  • Overcoming common barriers to effective AI implementation
