From Risk to Resilience: Making the Case for Mission-Critical OT Security

Across the public sector, government agencies are increasingly aware of cyber threats to non-traditional targets, such as building management systems or facility-related control systems, utilities, transportation networks and other areas where IT has been integrated into systems that control physical processes. Unfortunately, most cybersecurity solutions were not designed for operational technology (OT), which comes in many forms and often runs in specialized environments.

The risks are growing. Adversaries are targeting OT assets with increasing frequency, looking for any opening that allows them to infiltrate systems and disrupt operations or services. And now they have access to an arsenal of artificial intelligence-based tools that enable them to accelerate the pace and amplify the lethality of their attacks.

While cybersecurity teams understand the risk, they often lack the visibility needed to identify and address vulnerabilities, said Jen Sovada, General Manager of Public Sector at Claroty. “OT security is really built through asset discovery — understanding the vulnerabilities and making sure you’re managing that exposure,” she said.

In this video interview, Ms. Sovada, along with Thomas Keane, SLED Sales Director, and Heather Young, Federal Sales Regional Vice President at Claroty, discuss a strategic approach to improving OT security. Topics include:

  • The role of OT security in ensuring mission continuity
  • The most underestimated risk to OT operations
  • How to make the business case for OT security funding
