A Good Day’s (Two Years’) Work at the DOE

DOE loan office projects

$30 billion in financing for 28 projects that create or save 61,000 jobs.

Those are the three most striking numbers reported by the Department of Energy’s Loan Program Office recently. Of course, the numbers only tell one type of story. The ‘meat’ of this program is in what these projects will leave behind: the green energy infrastructure that the country needs to expand renewable energy production and consumption. Here’s a bit of what we’re talking about:

projects include the country’s largest wind farm; two solar thermal power plants that will nearly double the amount of commercial solar thermal electricity produced in the United States today; one of the largest photovoltaic generation facilities in the world; and a biodiesel refinery that will triple America’s domestic biodiesel production.
