AFPC – Civilian Hiring Test Initiative – Phase II Rollout

“The Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC) announced they are expanding the test to use one announcement to fill vacant positions open to internal and external AF applicants at select Joint Base locations. The Phase II expansion began on 24 May 2010 at Bolling AFB / Pentagon, Charleston AFB, McChord AFB, McGuire AFB, Langley AFB, Andersen AFB and Elmendorf AFB. As a reminder, Phase I of the test began 22 Feb 2010 at all USAFE bases, Goodfellow AFB, and Osan AB for all recruitment efforts.

“If you are applying for vacant positions at any of these locations, the new recruitment process will require you to use a resume. You are highly encouraged to begin developing a resume highlighting your knowledge, skills, and abilities, based on your employment history for future career opportunities. All vacant positions for the test sites will be posted on www.usajobs.gov. Remember, the test for the Phase II bases began on 24 May 2010. The Phase I bases continue to have their vacant positions posted on USAJOBS.”

What does this mean? In short, if you are internal, your skill code will no longer be the determining factor as to whether or not you are qualified for an internal position…you will be required to apply for a position at the named locations with a resume through USAJOBS.

If you’ve been in the system for awhile, your resume probably needs an update. The Federal Resume Toolbox is an excellent resource to help ensure your resume gets positive results!

Good Lord…AFPC couldn’t manage to fill positions within a reasonable time-frame using skill codes. Now they are going to throw skill codes out the window, us a Resume and expect to fill positions using that???

God help us all!!!!
