I cannot understand how one will fail if you can lead by high expectations but compassion. My father and his entire family were in business and dominated a line of business prior to the fall of the Republic of Vietnam. I watched and learned how my parents and my father’s siblings treated their employees. Their caring, loving, and focusing on their employees’ well-being served them well and the business well. Collectively, they all had high expectations for performance of employees and high standards of ethical behaviors but also had a high expectation for themselves to treat employees right, with dignity and respect and fairness. When one considers employees a crucial day-to-day asset, it will provide you a competitive advantage and sustainability!
