GovLoop Project of the Week – Business.gov

Happy Holidays to everyone. This week I present Business.gov.

Over the years I’ve found that starting a business from the ground up can be very frustrating and overwhelming. Looking for a list of what to do and who to contact can be just as tedious. I ran across Business.gov while doing some research for a friend and found it to be a super informative site. Right up front, they list the very things people are coming to the site looking to get answers for. It is indeed a transparent site and really speaks to the customers needs. Business.gov is an official site of the U.S. Government.

This administration has talked a lot about the small business owner and how important they are in our economy. Part of that is giving the small business owner (new and existing), the tools needed to get started or to expand in the proper manner. “Business.gov helps small businesses understand their legal requirements, and locate government services supporting the nation’s small business community.”

Not only are things clearly listed, but they are right on the front page, so it spares the user from having to dig and dig to find important bits of information. In addition, they have a social community, thriving Facebook page, twitter account, YouTube videos and Google Gadgets.

So, as we slide into the new year, I know many will contemplate starting their own business or expanding an existing one. May this Government resource be a help to you in starting or reengineering your new endeavor. Happy Holidays….

Thanks for highlight our effort. We work hard to support the 29 million small business owners across the country and are always interested in hearing how we can improve our service. By aggregating information from across the federal government and combining it with state/local resources that business needs, we hope we are saving business owners time as the plan and start their businesses and research what they need to know to successfully stay in business. If anyone has comments or great ideas for how we can improve, please e-mail us at [email protected]! Happy holidays to all!
