“Government is too serious,” said Philip Shucet, CEO and president of Hampton Roads Transit (VA), as he sat down to devour a dozen eggs and eight pancakes. “With all the drama that followed The Tide, it makes sense to do something fun,” he said. “Plus, I’ve been looking for an excuse to do it.” When HRT launched The Tide last week, marking the first light rail service in Virginia, Shucet vowed on Twitter to tackle the eating contest if the service carried at least 75,000 riders on opening weekend. And Shucet is not the only one tweeting on behalf of HRT. The Tide itself has a Twitter page and its snarky tweets have attracted about 500 followers. (By the way, Shucet could not finish the breakfast challenge.) Link to full story in The Virginian-Pilot.
