In its sixth year, “Operation Jump Start VI” event to help the soldiers of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom transition to civilian careers and brings together defense industry executives to supports soldiers and families at Walter Reed Medial Center. The annual event held at the Army Navy Club gathers support for the first two critical phases of a soldier’s transition into non-military life. The event is organized by Federal CIO Council, 1105 Government Information Group and TechAmerica and supported by AFCEA-Bethesda, AFFIRM and ACT-IAC.
Donations were gathered last night in two different batches to support two critical phases of a soldier’s transition.
Phase 1: Still in the Hospital, Keeping in Touch, Building up Strength
1. Restaurant gift cards in $5 increments for meals at the hospital.
2. Restaurant gift cards for a nice meal out with the family when they are visiting.
Phase 2: Transitioning to the Work Force, Moving Up and Out
1. Dry-cleaned mens and ladies suits, coats, ties, for office wear as well as formal wear.
2. Gift Certificates to local departments stores for supplies.
ClearedJobs.Net donated $300.00 worth of Target Gift cards.
The event also gave an opportunity for many of the soldiers to get out of the hospital, mingle with the community and attempt at some normalcy. Refreshments and music provided by the Bank Street Band made the event fun for everyone. Unlike other industry events that are all business and somewhat serious, this event is lighthearted and warm. As we all gathered to share what we could offer those who have served their country, a light snow fell on the ground outside. It was a warm and wonderful evening.
