Trends on Tuesday: Growth of Mobile Traffic

In 2008, 1% of the traffic to Facebook came from mobile devices. Today–three short years later–one in three visitors are coming from a mobile device. Twitter has doubled their mix from mobile in two years.

Take a look at your web traffic and see how much is coming from mobile devices. Check out the pages loaded from mobile devices. See what your mobile visitors are searching for on your site. These are some of the first steps you should take when thinking about how to make your information and services mobile.

Facebook made the decision that in order to reach billions of users, they needed to up their mobile game. They decided which features were essential to offer on all platforms, and which features could be used by more advanced platforms–including desktops.

Who are you trying to reach? What is it that you need to do to meet their anytime, anywhere needs? Given this growth, you don’t have any time to lose.
