TriMet (OR) quietly unveiled the public beta for its new open-source multimodal trip planner this week, with the official launch scheduled for October 15. Developed in partnership with OpenPlans, the application will let users plan trips that combine transit, walking, and biking. For trips with a bicycle component, travelers can ask for the fastest itinerary or the safest one; they also can use a slider to specify their preferred balance of travel time, hills, and safety. For transit trips, users can request a maximum walk distance ranging from one-tenth of a mile to 100 miles. Link to full story in The Oregonian.
