TSP Talk Weekly Wrap Up

The market saw two good days of positive action this week; the first Tuesday and the second Thursday, both with the rally in oil as a catalyst. The gains of those days were wiped out the following day(Wednesday and Friday) though with weakness in Disney and retail. Friday’s action pushed the market into negative territory for the week.

TSP stock funds were all down again with the S-fund lagging but all the losses were under 1%. The F-fund was up again as stocks were down.

Here are the weekly, monthly, and annual TSP fund returns for the week ending May 13th:

The SPY (S&P 500 / C-fund) has been slowly declining in the past few weeks but the 50-day EMA has held as support again to keep minimize losses. The index has not closed under its 50-day EMA since February so we’ll see how long that can continue. The C-fund was down 0.44% for the week.

The Dow Completion Index (S-fund) continued to trade under the support line of its two month trading channel but has found support from its 50-day EMA. The index did not stray far from its 200-day EMA this week leaving no clear signs as to the direction this index is going to take next; if it falls below its 50-day EMA there is no obvious support to bring buyers in. The S-fund was down 0.85% for the week.

EFA (EAFE Index / I-fund) filled an open gap this week but ran into declining resistance to turn around momentum. The fund declined from there falling into negative territory but is headed for another open gap. The I-fund was down 0.26% for the week.

AGG (Bonds / F-fund) led the TSP funds again as it continues to rise within its trading channel. The F-fund was up 0.29% for the week.
