Strengthening Data Resiliency in Federal Government Agencies

Government agencies rely on data to make informed decisions across a wide range of functions, from administrative tasks to critical national security initiatives. However, agencies often struggle with redundant, outdated, or irrelevant information, complicating efforts to achieve operational efficiency and cybersecurity.

It frequently is too difficult, though, for agencies to address these challenges on their own, to understand the data they have and achieve data resiliency. That’s when agencies need an outside partner to provide critical insight.

As Richard Breakiron, Commvault’s Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives in the Americas Public Sector, notes, “When it comes to data, it’s like moving to a new house. You need an independent perspective to help you decide what to keep and what to discard. Often, that means getting rid of data that’s no longer needed or can’t be read and implementing a continuous process to ensure data protection and management going forward.”

In this video interview, Breakiron discusses data resiliency and how agencies can develop a clear understanding of their data assets and leverage automation and AI to derive insights. Topics include:

  • The need for a qualified independent assessment that’s free from internal bias
  • How to prioritize the integration of automated tools, so that data identification, categorization and management can inform decision-making
  • Ways to incorporate a zero-trust architecture, with robust access controls and continuous monitoring, from the outset
  • Case studies highlighting successful initiatives in federal agencies
