Success loves speed. Many times important decisions have to be made when there is not a lot time, but a leader who has built up a track record in making good decisions will be able to do this with ease. Successful leaders are expert decision makers.

There’s no getting around it, in order to lead well, others must be able to understand the directions given. Successful leaders are great communicators. They also know how to listen with a view to understanding.

Successful leaders do not say one thing and do another. Successful leaders are completely congruent in what they say and do. As a result, they are able to lead by example. They teach what they know and are doing what they can to ‘develop the bench’. They invest time with their employees and help them succeed.

5. Displays a positive attitude

Successful leaders create a positive workplace. They do not leave this to chance. They actively commend you when it is deserved. They share positive tips that can help you advance in your career. They continually look for the good.

Nice list! What struck me about this list is that none of these involve a cost and all are within your control. Unfortunately, I think that most leaders think that they already have these behavioral characteristics. All they need to do is ask their followers to reveal the truth. These might be great performance evaluation criteria for supervisors.
