The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority launched TransitView last week, a service that shows users real-time bus and trolley location information via smart phone or Internet connection. TransitView does not provide arrival predictions but shows current bus locations on map that is updated every three minutes. Based on GPS data, location information is available for SEPTA’s 116 bus routes, three trackless trolley routes, and eight trolley lines. Customers without smart phones can request schedule information — but not real-time locations — via text message. According to The Inquirer, the text-based service is not available for T-Mobile or Sprint customers who make up about 25% of the Philadelphia-area market. Link to full story in Philly.com.
