After about a month of testing, St. Albert Transit (AB) rolled out real-time bus arrival information. “No one likes to wait for the bus more than they have to, so people using St. Albert Transit will find NextBus will save them time,” said transit director Bob McDonald. “We are pleased to be among the first municipalities in Canada to offer such a service.” St. Albert Transit is the sixth Canadian agency to provide real-time information and the second in Alberta (after Banff). Customers can access arrival predictions on the NextBus website. The St. Albert Gazette reports that the agency spent $70,000 to add GPS to its bus fleet and $100,000 for real-time tracking and arrival predictions; the service is estimated to increase operating costs by $5,000 per month.
