Starter for a Web Policy

Purpose:
This policy’s main objective is to layout the ground rule for people interacting with the website. This is a living document and the policy is likely to change as needs or technology changes please check it before making an assumption.

Scope:
City of Richmond Virginia has several overlapping websites that are not all maintained from the same authority. These web policy pertain to web site RichmondGov.com. The city of Richmond provides web service as a public service as a duplication of the Public Record. The public records for Virginia is summerized in a guide to the Virginia Public Records Act (http://www.lva.virginia.gov/agencies/records/VPRA.pdf).

How information gets on the website:
Content of the website is a duplication of the Public Record the public record is made from several sources though-out the city. The Office of the Press Secretary manages and supervises RichmondGov. The individual business units though-out the city produce the public record therefore are responsible for it accuracy on the web. Department of Information Technology provides over-site assistance, technical review and technical production of the website. We strive to be transparent. Transparency promotes accountability and provides information for citizens about what their Government is doing. We also have responsibilities to protect valid privacy information, security information or classified information that the city is steward for.
