Trends on Tuesday: More Mobile Subscriber Connections than People

Here is an interesting trend that Lee Rainie of the Pew Internet and American Life project discussed in a presentation about the role of Web and New Media in the public sector today.

“There are 315.5 million people in the United States and according to the CTIA there are 327.6 million mobile subscriber connections in the United States.”

That’s more connections than people! It’s not too surprising if you think about all the people that have mobile devices for both home and work.

What agencies need to keep in mind is that this number will continue to grow. As more and more people get mobile subscriptions, it becomes more important for agencies to think about how they can create effective mobile products to reach these mobile subscribers!
