Understanding the Importance of your Customers

“There is only one boss. The customer.” – Sam Walton

Have you ever gone into an Apple store? If so, you probably were greeted by an enthusiastic employee wanting to know if they could help you? They will answer all the questions you have about their products and they don’t pressure you to buy. They realize that you are the customer and the power is in your hands.

In the work world, our employers are our customers. As such, we must treat our customers well, or they will take their business elsewhere. In other words, we may get passed over for the promotion because another employee treats his customer or employer better.

A basic rule in life is that you will be rewarded by the value of the services you provide to other people. So how much value do you add to your customer?

Make sure you continually add to your knowledge, skills, and abilities. Let your customer see what skills you possess. Become indispensable, difficult to replace. Develop skills that keeps you in demand in your chosen niche area. Become the go-to person in your field. Do this and you will be paid more and promoted faster.

Action Item: Ask yourself “How can I add more value to your current job/position?”
