Conference on civil discourse being held in Seattle immediately before NCDD!

In case you’re not already aware of this, the Evergreen Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration and the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington holding a two-day conference titled “Civil Discourse to Resolve Governmental Crises: Creating a Path to Action” immediately before NCDD Seattle on October 10th and 11th!

The ASPA conference will take place at the Urban Horticulture Center at the University of Washington in Seattle.

The conference will incorporate interactive polling of attendees throughout the agenda, to gather insight on key themes and take-aways from the presenters. That insight will inform discussion at the end of the conference on recommended next steps and action items that will be widely disseminated. See the conference agenda at http://www.evergreenaspaonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Civil-Discourse-Conference-Agenda.pdf.

One of our conference partners for NCDD Seattle, the William D. Ruckelshaus Center, is also a Supporting Sponsor of the ASPA conference and asked us to alert NCDDers to this opportunity. You can register here for this event. Some of our attendees from the Seattle area may be particularly interested in attending both events.

The William D. Ruckelshaus Center acts as a neutral resource for collaborative problem solving in the State of Washington and Pacific Northwest. The Center provides expertise to improve the quality and availability of voluntary collaborative approaches for policy development and multi-party dispute resolution. It is a joint effort of Washington’s two research universities and was developed in response to requests from community leaders and hosted at the University of Washington by the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs and at Washington State University by WSU Extension. Building on the unique strengths of the two institutions, the Center is dedicated to assisting public, private, tribal, non-profit and other community leaders in their efforts to build consensus and resolve conflicts around difficult public policy issues. The Center also advances the teaching and research missions of the two universities by bringing real-world policy issues to the academic setting.
