The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) National Institutes of Health (NIH), is pleased to announce an exciting employment opportunity for an exceptional candidate to serve as a Data Scientist in the Office of the Deputy Director (ODD). The NIEHS aims to establish a digital scientific data universe in which data creation, collection, documentation, analysis, preservation and dissemination can be appropriately managed. This will enhance return on research and development investment by ensuring that digital data realize their full potential as catalysts for progress in our global information society. This position is located in the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.

Salary/Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $70,906 to $92,177 per annum, commensurate with qualifications and professional experience. A full benefits package is available, which includes retirement, Thrift Savings Plan participation, health, life, and long-term care insurance.

Duties:
If selected for this position, you will:
Develop and implement research data services;
Organize and lead a trans-NIEHS data science committee;
Coordinate management of new research data collections;
Implement metadata standards and best practices;
Manage the digital intellectual output with technologists, archivists, librarians, informationists, scientists and other partners;
Oversee development of digital curation plans, policies, procedures, and initiatives that enable digital asset preservation and access;
Apply semantic web technologies for relating data elements to enhance new discoveries;
Lead development of a central data repository, infrastructure, and tools;
Serve as a contracting officer’s representative.

Desired Skills & Experience

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
You must have completed a degree in a major study in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Government. Examples of qualifying experience include: integrating, curating, and analyzing large biomedical datasets; implementing a health-related ontology for enhanced data accessibility and interoperability across databases; serving on special task groups to develop projects or specialized resources to improve access to data and information; assisting with developing data management and data sharing guidance and policy; implementing strategic goals and objectives for information management.
