Turning Records Into Insights: AI Expands the Power of Content Management

Government agencies have made significant progress in digitizing documents and strengthening content management processes, but critical gaps remain. For example, the use of metadata, which is essential for finding and classifying data, is often inconsistent. In addition, some workflows, while partially automated, still rely on manual steps, such as emailing a PDF for further processing. “There’s still a disconnect between finding the insight that’s contained in a record and pulling that insight out without a lot of manual effort,” said Andy MacIsaac, Senior Strategic Solutions Manager for Government and Education at Laserfiche.

But AI can help agencies close those gaps. Instead of reading through documents and keying in data, employees can use AI to find and extract critical information, while also identifying personally identifiable information that must be protected. Then they can use simple, natural language prompts to execute multi-step tasks. Employees remain in control of the processes but can rely on AI to execute tasks more quickly and effectively than they ever could, said Alex Wong, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Laserfiche. “The best-case scenario for any process automation is when you can just be hands-off,” he said.

In this video interview, MacIsaac and Wong discuss how agencies can use AI to increase productivity and generate more actionable insights. Topics include:

  • Leveraging AI to act more quickly on insights extracted from documents
  • Designing automated processes with humans at the center
  • Ensuring that AI-driven processes are secure, governed and auditable
