Whether Willie Sutton actually said it or not, it’s still good theater. And it’s on point for how the tables have turned about how to commit terrorism, espionage and crime. You DON’T have to be there anymore – almost. Some acts still require a physical presence (like Mumbai), but the planning, reconnaissance, training, rehearsals, actions on the objective, escape, evasion and/or exploitation are being aided more today than ever before by open source information and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) technology. Do-it-yourself terrorism is within reach.
