GSA Selects Agency ‘Green’ Building Standards

The General Services Administration has recommended two green building certification systems for agencies to follow for construction and renovation projects.

GSA chose the Green Building Initiative’s Green Globes and the LEED system from the U.S. Green Building Council after reviewing input from the public and stakeholders, the agency said Friday.

Kevin Kampschroer, director of GSA’s Office of Federal High-Performance Green Buildings, said the office intends for the third-party standards to help agencies lower energy and water consumption as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Agencies can use either method to measure sustainability targets in federal office buildings, laboratories, hospitals and airplane hangars, GSA says.

GSA intends to carry out additional reviews of new green building tools.
