Presidential Proclamation – National Volunteer Week (April 15-21, 2012)

April 9, 2012 –President Obama issued his annual Presidential Proclamation for National Volunteer Week.

The President declared that, ” Service is a lifelong pursuit that strengthens the civic and economic fabric of our Nation. With every hour and every act, our lives are made richer, our communities are drawn closer, and our country is forged stronger by the dedication and generous spirit of volunteers. I encourage every American to stand up and play their part — to put their shoulder up against the wheel and help change history’s course. To get started on a project near you, visit www.Serve.gov.”

There is nothing quite as rewarding as serving as a volunteer, especially with fellow agency employees, who share your commitment to serve others. Isn’t that why we work for the government? If not, we are in the wrong job.

I encourage all Government employees, as all levels to make a commitment to get out there and volunteer in their community next week. I am leading a team of about 45 volunteers from my agency at a local park in Arlington, which is great since April 22 is also Earth Day.

What are you doing to fulfill the President’s Proclamation for National Volunteer Week?
