GL Chat – Enchanting in the Face of Adversity – Highlights from Guy Kawasaki talk

“If you’re not failing every now and then, it’s a sign you’re not doing anything very innovative” – Woody Allen
We had an awesome live video chat with Guy Kawasaki today about “How Government Can Be Enchanting?”

Well, I’d better preface that to say we had awesome content

…but had technical difficulties with getting video streaming and background noise eliminated. Honestly, we spent a lot of time preparing and testing internally but it didn’t turn out like our tests. But as a community we preach taking risks and embracing failure…and that’s what we did here – tried a new technology, had a few wrinkles…but as Woody Allen said if you’re not failing every now and then, you aren’t innovating

and as Guy wrote to me right after ” Anyone can be enchanting when everything goes right. :-)”
Here’s some highlights and quotes from our GL live chat:

If you have a chance, listen to Guy’s Speech Video — it’s definitely ENCHANTING. It’s about one hour long and full of great ideas and practices as well as alot of humor. I’m definitely buying his book. And he answered my question on why a guy would choose a butterfly for his book cover. Great stuff! I am ENCHANTED!

I also liked his little anecdote from an encounter with the CEO (I think…) of Virgin Air. When Guy said he had never flown Virgin Air, the exec immediately got down and started (albeit somewhat jokingly) shining Guy’s shoes, but genuinely wanting to know how to win his business. Guy was really impressed, and after relating the story, he mentioned to Steve, “you won’t see [the CEO of Apple] doing that anytime soon…” 🙂

For the future, please, please, always include the time zone in all events. We don’t all live the East coast. When we asked for time zone, no one responded.

I also never found any kind of link to get into the chat. Please make these instructions more clear. “

So sorry, and frustrating, to have missed it. Glad to have been introduced to him, however, if just on the main page. I’ll certainly look him up through other sources.

Will do Sue. We had time zone in a couple of messages but not all so it’s a great reminder for us. And agree on instructions – was more confusing than originally thought.

Thanks for the feedback – More awesomeness to come next time
