GovBytes: App Shows Health Inspection Scores of Restaurants

A new app has been released that identities health inspection records at restaurants in California. Government Technology reports that the new app in Sacramento allows consumers to check out health inspection scores at local restaurants.

Called “Sacramento County Food Inspections,” the app shows a person’s current location in Sacramento County, Calif., and the nearby retail food facilities, which are marked on both a map and in a list. The color of the markers on the map indicate the most recent food inspection placard result, inspection date and links to view more detailed information.

Launched in September and developed by the Sacramento County Department of Technology, the program is the first mobile application built by Sacramento County.

Sacramento County has reported increases in traffic and has gotten positive feedback from the app. A cool feature would be if consumers could report health violations on the mobile app. Hopefully this is something that more cities and counties will be able to replicate.
