Hi David,
Disclaimer: I all ever knew about XP I just learned in 30 minutes from your links.
It seems like the ideas are similar, and can be complimentary. Both emphasize that there should be a strong relationship between the developers and the end users.
XP seems to place a lot of emphasis on how the development team will change so development…[Read more]

I like the current # of blogs & discussions.
I agree about removing the news, twitter, member pictures, & latest activity.
I would also remove the pictures. They are out of context so they don’t really do anything.
Move Friends of GovLoop to a separate page.
Maybe the Groups box could just be a blurb about what groups are about, and a search…[Read more]

After several conversations with the director of our fairly small agency, we’re finally starting our first project with this approach. Just starting but I’ll let the community know how it goes.
Since reading about the Benefits Realization framework, I can’t imagine going back to doing a project any other way.
The D4U/Benefits Realization…[Read more]

It’s time to stop thinking about project management as being constrained by time, cost, and scope and start thinking about projects as enablers of benefits.

At a conference the presenter (sorry, not remembering who) said, “Everything government does begins and ends with a form.”
This inspired me to think about the current state of our forms where things were on personal drives, local drives, and shared drives; filing cabinets and desk drawers. Where multiple people were multiple versions of the same…[Read more]

So we’ve read things, or participated in conferences, or just talked things over with someone, where we’ve had these ah-ha moments when the light bulb came on.
Please share your ah-ha moments, and being as specific as possible, tell us what they inspired you to do…

Tim Constantine replied to the topic What Makes a good Blog post Brilliant? in the forum Miscellaneous 11 years, 2 months ago
I think a blog post can be brilliant in a variety of ways (but probably not all of these ways at the same time).
A brilliant blog post inspires “ah-ha” moments. They make you look at things in a new way.
A brilliant blog post also supports my current thoughts, and lets me know I’m not totally off-base in my thinking.
A brilliant blog post…[Read more]

How about a “Times Accessed: #” for blog posts and forum posts? Might encourage more posting of ideas and information.

Hi Joshua,
I’m working on convincing my agency and others that we need to start start focusing on efficiency and thinking of Information Technology as an enabler of business change.
I’ve seen too many ideas rejected before they’re evaluated, half-measures, build-it-and-they-don’t-come-projects, and “successful” IT projects that end up doing more…[Read more]

Lean Six Sigma in Government 11 years, 9 months ago
Hi Group,
I’ve been taking a 14 week course provided by the State of Ohio Department of Administrative Services. As part of the course, my team had to create an online training about Lean Six Sigma that will be used at all levels of government here in Ohio. We also created a “Tools” module that provides templates and links for tools that you can…[Read more]

Hi Wayne,
Here’s DokuWiki’s list of sample sites (some are better than others): http://www.dokuwiki.org/users
Same goes for some of the templates that are available here: http://www.dokuwiki.org/template
You’re absolutely right though, it depends on how any wiki is set up. I find a lot of wikis difficult to navigate because they’ll show you…[Read more]

I totally agree that a wiki is a good idea and will compliment, not compete with sites like GovLoop.
A couple thoughts and some questions.
– Just a personal opinion, but I’ve always found MediaWiki ugly and hard to navigate. We use DokuWiki in our agency.– I don’t trust “the cloud” or a site like Wikidot. What assurances are there that a site…[Read more]

Looking for introduction to green belt Six Sigma training – preferabbly something creative commons or government to goverment that we can freely modify and copy.

Tim Constantine replied to the topic Who’s in charge of your website design? in the forum Miscellaneous 12 years ago
Good question. If people outside of IT see it involves a computer, it automatically becomes an IT project and responsbility. You need a Benefits Realization Plan. Read Managing the Realization of Business Benefits from IT Investments for some background.
