How GIS is Creating a Common Operating Picture

Daniel Visone, Systems & Acquisition Support Directorate Chief, US Army Geospatial Center, recently spoke with GovLoop about how GIS is helping to create a common operating picture.

“One of the terms I usually use when I go out brief is that a lot of the army programs are considered stovepipes or cylinders of excellence because they have never looked at geospatial or gis tech holistically to understand that its not just maps, but it’s a framework or foundation that everyone should work off of, and our goal in the army is to have everyone work off the same standard shareable GIS foundation,” said Visone.
