Come One, Come All: Every Govie Should Attend NextGen

At this point, we know you’re familiar with the 2021 NextGen Government Training Virtual Summit. It’s a jam-packed, virtual, professional development summit taking place on August 4-5. Whether you’re a GS-9 or a GS-15, NextGen is for everyone.

Here are four reasons why everyone should attend NextGen:

1. Skills, skills, skills

NextGen sessions are based on the United States Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs). ECQs cover five professional skill areas: leading change, leading people, driving results, displaying business acumen and building coalitions. These qualifications are used to assess the competencies of federal workers and mastery of these skills determines if one can enter the Senior Executive Service (SES). Even if you don’t aspire to join the SES, you should leverage diversity, develop external partnerships and demonstrate resilience.

2. Valuable for all levels of experience

Many make the mistake of dismissing professional development as a resource for entry-level employees. Here’s a secret: it’s not! NextGen provides skills and resources for everyone. Cybersecurity, public speaking, and emotional intelligence are hot topics for all employees, regardless of what’s on their resume. In fact, if your career has been stagnant for the past few years, acquiring new skills can help you breathe some life back into your vocation.

3. Grow your network

You knew this one was coming. GovLoop’s mission is to connect government to improve government. Since the 2021 NextGen Summit will be virtual, we’ve developed a platform to facilitate online networking and chatting. So, you’ll get to converse with amazing people, but instead of wearing a suit or a dress, you can wear pajamas or sweatpants.

4. Speakers that will leave you inspired

Whether they’re authors, consultants, colonels or professors, our speakers are nothing short of incredible. Get ready to laugh, reflect and reexamine your career and life. You’ll be so inspired by their messages, that you’ll visit their on-demand sessions on a regular basis. To learn more about our keynotes for the summit, check out this article.

So, come to NextGen. The only requirement to sign up is to want to advance your career in government.
