GovLoop’s Bureaucrat on Sports – AP Top 25 NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision – Selected Week 12 Picks (Call it Revenge Week)

Who’s a giant killer, baby? Virginia Military Institute defeated the University of Kentucky in a major college basketball upset tonight. The Hokie Guru loves David vs. Goliath stories. We all do!! It’s November madness with the Hokie Guru!!

Cincinnati controls its own destiny in the Big East and has one college football’s best coaches in Brian Kelly. At the beginning of the year, the Hokie Guru was very high on Kelly (and incidentally, the Hokie Guru ranked Cincy too low). Cincy now has an upcoming showdown with Pitt. Bearcat football is the main attraction in the Queen City? Rock on Wayne, Party on Garth.

You know the drill… have fun with the Hokie Guru in his weekly picks… our theme this week is “Revenge Week”… look out below:

1.) #10 Ohio State at Illinois – You can bet the Buckeye Head Coach, Jim Tressel, showed his players the tape of last year’s game with Illinois.

The “S” is silent in Illinois, Lou Holtz. The Hokie Guru reminded you about that. What’s the matter with you, Lou?

This is a revenge game; the poor Illini are in trouble (and the Hokie Guru likes Ron Zook). Ohio State wins!!

2.) Mississippi State at #1 Alabama – Top-ranked Alabama tries to avoid a third straight loss to Mississippi State. Something tells the Hokie Guru that this Crimson Tide is like the Baltimore Ravens team that won the National Football League Super Bowl; just enough offense and a tough as nails defense. Alabama wins!!

3.) #17 North Carolina at Maryland – The Hokie Guru thinks that the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) might be the most balanced football conference in the country. Nine teams have a winning percentage of .500 or better. Can North Carolina handle the pressure of being #1 in the ACC? Can the Maryland Terps continue their trend of defeating ranked teams? The answer is yes for the Terps in this wacky ACC. Terps win!!

Have a great week!!

UNC game is looking close Kind of a weak schedule for college football this week. No real marquee games. Not that my Bulls got creamed by Rutgers I’m officially moving on to basketball.

Terps might lose to F$U next week… Miami loses to Georgia Tech… Virginia Tech wins out… makes it to the ACC Championship Game… plays against Boston College… the ACC is weak this year and Utah/Ball State have a legit gripe about being left out of the BCS.
