NAGW Comments on USDOJ ANPRM re: web accessibility

Notes From NAGW
The National Association of Government Webmasters (NAGW.org) submitted a response to the USDOJ Advanced Notice of Proposed Rule Making, CRT Docket No. 110, (Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability; Accessibility of Web Information and Services of State and Local Government Entities and Public Accommodations) on January 24, 2011.

Representing the interests and concerns of local government webmasters is at the core of NAGW’s mission. The organization provides a way for local and state government webmasters to share knowledge, ideas and resources, as well as a way to meet and network with others who have similar positions. Our goal is to improve our capacity to provide value across the web to our communities.

NAGW has always encouraged implementation of accessibility standards on all sites so information is available to the broadest online constituency, but is concerned about the many jurisdictions that will be unable to comply with regulatory requirements because of technical, staffing and budgetary shortages. It supports continuing education about web accessibility along with Federal leadership in creating resource libraries and certifying web products.
