OPM considers eliminating GS system, denying raises to poor performers

Forgive me my fellow GovLoopers for not posting in a few weeks! It’s been a bit busy around Federal News Radio. But we’ve got some great stories I wanted to make sure you all saw. Our pay and benefits guru Mike Causey has been on a roll this past week breaking some news on various pay and personnel related issues.

He was at the Human Capital Management Forum where OPM Director John Berry discussed some changes to the personnel system that are under serious review – like eliminating the GS system and punishing employees by docking their annual leave. Read the full story by clicking here.

He also found out that OPM Director John Berry is promising to give federal employees a very early heads up about snow closings. Berry says a decision will be made by 4 a.m. on the days when snow and ice are a concern. Of course, Federal News Radio will also have that information available on our website and on the air (1500 and 820 AM in the D.C. metro area) as soon as it is given to us on those days.

Mike’s also been on a roll getting information out for this year’s Open Season. (There’s only a few days left to make changes! Open Season ends Dec. 14, 2009.) Be sure to check out Mike’s page for more information on your Open Season options.
