QUESTIONS ON PRESIDENT’S TRIPS. The Post.
MICRODONOR STRATEGY 2012. Bloomberg. “Donors who pledge $75,800 to the Obama Victory Fund will be named ‘Presidential Partners’ and will be invited to quarterly campaign briefings that are sometimes attended by the president, said a Democratic official who wasn’t authorized to comment publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.”
WH MEETING ORGANIZED BY DNC UPDATE. Politico. “The March 7 meeting in the Blue Room of the residence has drawn attention and criticism because most of the attendees were donors or fundraisers and the session was arranged by the DNC. Good-government advocates said hosting the event at the White House was ill-advised.”
JOHNSON SELF-FUNDING STORY. Politico. “Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), who poured $9 million into his 2010 campaign, paid himself more than $10 million from the company for which he was a CEO, financial disclosure records show.”
WHAT’S NEXT IN RENZI CASE. Roll Call. “A federal appeals court decision that paved the way for the Justice Department to proceed with its case against former Rep. Rick Renzi (R-Ariz.) for alleged corruption, extortion and fraud could set the stage for a Supreme Court showdown over a constitutional clause that errant lawmakers have used successfully in recent years to avoid criminal prosecution.”
SUPER PAC RULES ON FEC AGENDA. Roll Call. “The Federal Election Commission released two major draft opinions on Friday to address questions surrounding the operation of new super political action committees, which can raise and spend unlimited funds.”
OSC CORRECTS THE RECORD. You have to look really hard for some small print on the Office of Special Counsel’s website, but the agency corrected its report on 2006 activity by White House and federal agency officials to indicate that OSC erroneously deemed some trips official when documentary evidence showed otherwise. The notice can be viewed here.
COLBERT TAKES SHOW TO FEC. TPM.
LOBBYIST ETHICS COMMISSION FOR DE? Story here.
LOBBYIST REFERRAL FEES IN AL. Story here. “Alabama’s gambling corruption trial has exposed a little-known source of income for some legislators: thousands of dollars in referral fees from lobbyists who are trying to influence their votes.”
