The Best Government Conferences of 2020 [COVID-19 UPDATE]

A note about this update: This is an unusual time to be picking the best government conferences to attend. The spread of a coronavirus disease, called COVID-19, has raised concerns about large, crowded events. When you make plans, be sure to check event cancellation policies, follow CDC guidance on preventing the spread of COVID-19, and stay home if you are sick.

As we updated this list, we discovered many organizers of events are assessing risk, monitoring the situation, and making changes to prevent the spread of the disease. Some employers have temporarily banned nonessential employee travel, while some municipalities have asked businesses to not hold large gatherings. Many springtime events have been canceled, postponed, or changed to virtual, while most events later in the year are still happening as of the article publication date (last update: March 16, 8:30pm PT).

If an event organizer has shared COVID-19 news by the article publication date, we’ve included it below. We may update this list periodically.

This is the sixth year we’ve made this list for you. Here, you’ll find brand new trainings, symposia, summits, forums, expos, seminars, workshops, conventions and conferences worth checking out, as well as established events that might be new to you. If you work in federal, state or local government, you’ll discover events worth checking out.

This list of the best government conferences will let you plan ahead and advocate for those precious professional development dollars. We’ve dug deep to find the dates for as many events as we can to help you have a great 2020. And, if you can’t attend an event this year, since most of these events are annual, keep it on your radar for 2021.

As a bonus for the social media savvy, the listings include event hashtags, when available, for those who can’t attend but want to participate in the virtual conversations.
