Awards Distinguish Excellence in Government 2.0

San Francisco, CA – Today, Granicus, Inc announced the winners of the 2009 Digital Governance Awards. Granicus is the nation’s leading provider of integrated streaming media, legislative management, and online training solutions built to help government agencies enhance Web-based transparency, citizen participation, and communication. The awards honor government agencies that leverage streaming media technologies to:

* Improve efficiency in government and public service
* Enhance public communication
* Improve community engagement
* Facilitate government transparency

The winners will accept their awards at the Digital Governance Awards Banquet on July 24 at the 2009 Granicus User Conference held July 22-24 in San Francisco.

“We’re exceptionally proud to honor this diverse group of agencies that govern populations as small as 8,000 and as big as six million. They have adopted new technology and are applying it in innovative ways to deliver more transparency, foster higher levels of citizen awareness and participation, optimize their processes, and reduce operating costs,” says Tom Spengler, Granicus CEO and co-founder.

“This year’s Digital Governance Awards exemplify local and state government leadership in harnessing technology to align with Web 2.0 information standards and Obama’s principles of open government. Our winners illustrate best practices in government transparency for demonstrating high levels of government information aggregation and Web accessibility. The winners are also true leaders in providing public information that’s usful, timely, complete, and easy to find,” adds Spengler.

The Digital Governance Awards program was instituted by Granicus to recognize technological innovation by its broad client base. Over the past decade, over 550 public agencies in 47 states and Canada have deployed Granicus technologies for streaming public meetings and managing legislative data, resulting in the development of one of the largest networks of government data online. This data includes audio/video public meeting recordings and digital public records—all archived, cross-linked, keyword searchable, and RSS-enabled. The collection of data has enabled Granicus to form a national ranking of webcast government content. The statistics are now publicly available on this website.
