Open Foreste Italiane is Gathering Momentum

Wow – there is a great new article on Ushahidi’s blog about an application I told you all about recently, which encourages crowdsourcing to stop Italian forest fires before they start. This has huge potential to increase community resilience and assist current firespotting efforts in a nonintrusive way. A lovely video by Elena Rapisardi, the developer (who previously worked in TV production and also is a bit of an artist and musician) is an early foray into convincing the public to help.

Rapisardi, a member of the GovLoop community, is gathering momentum as she partners with forest worker Giovanni Liotto, and now Monica Palmeri, a PhD Candidate in “Politics, Human Rights and Sustainability” at the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, Italy.
