As I listened to President Obama’s State of the Union address last week, my ears perked up on a number of fronts, not the least of which was his call for the government to spur American innovation through promising new federal investments in education, biomedical research, information technology and clean energy.
Also causing me to sit upright were the President’s comments about making our government “more competent and efficient” through plans to merge, consolidate and reorganize many federal functions.
Although the details and decisions are still undefined, there’s no reason in the meantime for you to stand still. As a federal manager, there’s a great deal you can do now within your agencies and offices to spur innovation and deliver better results for the American people.
