Michaela Holmberg started the topic Anyone in Washington State Hiring? in the forum Emerald City GovLoopers 8 years, 10 months ago
Hey Emerald City Govloopers: I’m creating an outsourcing website for our employees right now to help them transition out of our agency during these upcoming projected layoffs. Our agency is comprised mainly of engineers, environmental and transportation planners, and IT Specialists (as well as many talented project support staff). If you have…[Read more]

Wow, thanks to both of you. I’m inquiring for a friend. I knew about the “burying” tactic but was hoping there was another option. I’ll let them know to get started blogging on GovLoop!

I know you can’t delete something once it’s on the web but I’m wondering if anyone knows how to move certain articles down so they don’t show up when you do a google search? I believe it has something to do with meta-tagging, but wondering if anyone has a quick “how to”.

SNL makes fun of everyone, that’s what they do. Yes this skit is making fun of government employees but other skits make fun of celebrities, other skits make fun of bank CFO’s, etc. We can’t take it personally if they choose to make one skit about Gov’t employees.
On the bright side, I do think this stereo type is disappearing. I live in…[Read more] -
Michaela Holmberg started the topic Shared Services vs. Centralization. Can either save $ AND maintain efficiency? in the forum Forum Discussions 10 years, 1 month ago
Washington State is pondering the idea of adopting a shared services or centralization model to help save money in “back office” functions like HR, IT, Finance etc. Does anyone have any research/experience to demonstrate which models have worked best for both short and long term savings as well as efficiency?

Michaela Holmberg replied to the topic What’s the Best Advice You’ve Received? in the forum Forum Discussions 10 years, 1 month ago
Two best pieces of advice given to me by my boss were:
Never be afraid to take a calculated risk, as long as it’s calculated. You will eventually fail but it’s the only way you’ll grow.
Always, ALWAYS own up to your mistakes and when appropriate make a formal apology. It will gain you respect, trust and forgiveness.

Michaela Holmberg replied to the topic New School/New Gov Dialogue – What Advice Would you Give MPA/MPP students? in the forum Forum Discussions 10 years, 2 months ago
This is really a two part question that requires a two part answer. The first is getting hired. As a current MPA student but also a recruiter for State Government, it is all about who and what you know. If you see a job you’re interested in, research it as if it were a school assignment. Figure out who the hiring authority and/or recruiter is.…[Read more]

Michaela Holmberg replied to the topic Castellano or Spanish in the forum Spanish Speakers 10 years, 6 months ago
The term Espanol is not really correct. It dates back to when Franco was a dictator over Spain. Many of the autonomies including Pais Vasco (where the terrorist group ETA originates from and for this reason), Cataluna, etc have their own languages. Castellano is the actual language that is referred to in Spanish. Franco wanted to nationalize all…[Read more]
