Just Added NEW WMU Course “Video Bootcamp”

We wanted to let you know of a new course we’ve just added from Web Manager University: an INTENSE two-day “Video Bootcamp” class in Washington, DC October 13-14. Because the format and cost of this class is different from our regular classes, please be sure to read the details below carefully.

Please also share this broadly within your agency – especially to people working directly in video production or with program managers who want to train their subject matter experts in creating short, compelling videos for the Web.

Class Description:
There is no denying video is the most powerful medium of communication we’ve ever invented. The statistics tell the story: 71% of US internet users view video online, an average US viewer spends nearly 4 hours watching video online each month, and if YouTube was a country, it would be the #3 most-populated nation in the world. As the web moves to video, it is critical that government web managers and other communicators learn to work in this remarkably powerful medium.

Join Michael Roseblum and his staff for Web Managers University’s Video Bootcamp to learn to shoot, script, track, edit, produce, and upload your video to the Web.

In this INTENSE two-day course you will complete a video project from beginning to end and have massive critique and feedback sessions as well. There is also a great deal of time devoted to the impact of the digital revolution, which explores how to best apply your newly learned skills. [see edits from course description so they’re consistent]

How this class is different from our regular classes and why:

Class format: This course is more intensive than our regular Web Manager University courses. The timing of the day is longer, you’ll be spending time “in the field” shooting video, and you may be working through lunch with your classmates. The course is designed to be intense so you get hands-on experience learning all the aspects of shooting video and to ensure you complete your video project and get the feedback you need to be successful.

Fees: Although the cost is high, we think the results would be very tangible — more than traditional training classes. As more agencies establish their YouTube channels and produce more web-based videos, we’re seeing a need to train people on how to create short, compelling videos. Our market research shows that this kind of intensive, hands-on course with a top-notch instructor costs at least this much, if not more.

We do find value in this course and hope you will too. We have talked to others that have taken it this course and they feel it was worth their time and have received their return on the investment.
Date: Tuesday, October 13 and Wednesday, October 14, 2009
Time: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm (Note: This course will run longer than our other WMU courses)
Place: TBD
Fee: $1,950 for federal, state, or local U.S. government employees; $2,925 for non–government participants
Please feel free to share this info broadly via email, social networks, and other venues.
