Thanks, Andrey. Good reframing as constraints vs. problems and agree on your two questions. A third critical question is: “How do you design the learning experience to ensure that they get those knowledge and skills…and that you can appropriately track if they have?”

Loved this article, lots of great trends and amazing how fast everything is happening. From the workforce/development angle, it’s nice to see a lot of focus on the shorter programs designed to give people the skills needed to get back into the workforce, hopefully finding employment easily and earning a higher wage. So it’s great seeing curriculum/content being developed in partnership with employers, so prospective employees can quickly gain the skills they need and get to work. Robots kind of scare me! But yes, will play an increasingly important role in learning, and our entire economy….

Great points! After being in Learning and Development for nearly 2 decades, it has been absolutely amazing to watch the transformation of distance learning. The word “webinar” is often seen as taboo or invokes a feeling of wasted time. With emerging technologies and learning professionals who know how to maintain that “classroom” feel, we’re changing that way of thinking…AND moving the performance needle!

To me, these are not problems rather than constrains in which the instructional designers need to innovate.
I think the key questions around learning is:
– What skills or knowledge do people need?
– How to know that people attained the knowledge and skills?
Thanks, Andrey. Good reframing as constraints vs. problems and agree on your two questions. A third critical question is: “How do you design the learning experience to ensure that they get those knowledge and skills…and that you can appropriately track if they have?”
