I was in Washington, DC with my parents in 1981 and just happened to visit the Jefferson Memorial during a celebration of his birthday, complete with honor guard and dignitaries. It’s always awe-inspiring to visit the various landmarks throughout the city – DC is great!

While the prospect of keeping the public well informed may seem to be a “no brainer,” there are some folks in government who may not see the value in it. I think it would have been more effective if Mr. Colbert had not appeared in character, but rather as someone who has undoubtedly been in the public spotlight and able to see how the issue has affected everyday Americans. This would have been a better way to go, rather than the comedy act.
