    Hi Emily,
I am not a typical baby-boomer either. I wrote a similar story about Millennials a while ago. Generational stereotypes emerge because there are differences. Not in a bad way, but a response to the world […]

    Tracey,
Your article certainly mirrors my last 8 years of working for the Federal government. Leaders need to resolve conflicts at work, not complacency. You talk about acknowledging “work drama,” acting out […]

As we are training the “millennials,” it’s important to keep in mind the way they think. Are any of you specialists in the arena. I’ve written some commentary, but nothing else.

Looking for information. Have to make a trip to SSA. Not looking forward to the long wait, but I expect I’ll be riled up enough to comment on training and customer service. While I have nothing against the agency, I have looked at websites and been on the phone with them. The people are great, and I know they are overworked. While I’ll be looking…[Read more]

I’ve been away for some time concentrating on teaching the soft subjects of English and speech. Wife has a new government job, so I “consult.” Also, I am busy with training for Cruise Ship passengers on how to have a good time in the Port of Calls. Any resources out there?

@3dy8x3n7vs11sThanks, John, for joining. I retired from the military and the government in 2011. Keeping busy and involved. Still open to contract or part-time work in several areas and particularly interested the subject of the hiring of middle management and executives as temps.

What has happened to training with the government shut-down and now that things are relatively back to normal?

I played tennis when I was much younger. I used to go off by myself and practice serves in a local court. One day, an older woman in her sixties was watching me play.
    “You need some help badly.”
    Was I that bad?
I tried to ignore her. I knew I needed to work on my swing.
    “I can help,” she continued.
    “Really,” I said sarcastically.
    I was young and…[Read more]

I ran across the comment on my article The Anatomy of a Trainer. Basically, the main idea was to say trainers can come from anywhere in the organization. I did compare would be trainers are noticed like leaders, but being junior makes training a good place for them and I applaud the idea that trainers should represent the company and the CEO at…[Read more]

One of the gentlemen in my class, a very large gentlemen, came up to me at the very first of class and said, “You flunked me on the group project, and I didn’t deserve it.” He walked away, head bowed. I said, “Tell me what you said in the group discussion.” He just shook his head and said, “It don’t matter.” “This is a communication class.…[Read more]

Carol, Not to out do you, but I left home at 15, worked and stayed in school, went to college for awhile, joined the Marines, got out a Sergeant, went to work in radio and TV doing commercials mostly while I went back to college, then joined the USAF as a public affairs officer, got out as a Major. My choice. I had had all the interesting…[Read more]

    @1343rkvms233qHi Susan,
My best interview was for the Federal government a long time ago, but for the most part, your first line says it all. Now that I am in a business of constantly selling myself, I find it too easy to say “I’m not the right fit” than to say, “Sure, let’s do it.” I’m talking training or speech coaching projects. Now, I am the…[Read more]
